I came across two fascinating posts on Facebook about two books that come from very different worlds. They both have a very interesting common thread, however. That ‘ennui’…the inability of the protagonist to ‘function’ as an individual. It feels as if being a privileged member of society – having it all, having everything ‘done’, having nothing to ‘worry about’, ‘work for’ or ‘secure’ caused a short circuiting of futility.
