It is believed that Oscar Wilde had a copy of The Yellow Book on his person when he was arrested. And he was just as notorious at the time as Beardsley the artist who was the Art Editor/Illustrator for The Yellow Book.
I am creating a collection of cards – The Culturati Collection Cards.
Perfect for digital journals, commonplace books, and literary collections. Or to print as small cards.
For this collection, I will be posting a rotating collection of bold literary rebels, women who stood up to society, artists who stood out, ideas that startled, images that stir and excerpts from works that provoke thought and emotion.
The cards will be in my Instagram and Facebook gallery posts. The first cards will be posted tomorrow night.
Being culture savvy is rebellious today. And that is what my sites are all about.
So I’m starting the card collection with one of the most notorious literary and art magazines, The Yellow Book.
Great writers contributed their work to this magazine – one that lasted just a few years. The Yellow Book had top-notch illustrations as well as literary greats writing essays. Well-known figures were its editors.
However, the magazine was affected by the scandals of the time – like the scandal of Oscar Wilde, for example. It was a turbulent world then, and the literary and art scene absorbed the conflicts.
